LOCKPORT – The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office identified the hunter injured in a 10- to 15-foot fall out of a tree just after 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 7300 block of Kinne Road.
Donald B. Bottorff, 50, of Ohio Street, suffered a broken ankle in the fall, deputies said. Bottorff told rescuers he was bow hunting and fell when he tried to get in a better position in the tree and a branch snapped.
Deputies, state police and Rapids volunteer firefighters were assisted by South Lockport and Terry’s Corners volunteers. Rescuers walked 500 feet into the woods and crossed a creek about 2½ feet deep to make the rescue.
Bottorff was secured to a large basket, carried over the creek and pulled to the roadway by a Terry’s Corner’s ATV unit, deputies said. He was treated in Erie County Medical Center.
