CAMBRIA – Two 18-year-olds admitted to scrapping for manhole covers on Eagle Drive, but denied their role in a recent rash of manhole cover thefts.

Kyle A. Arne, of Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda, and Cody J. Corson, of Mapleton Road, Pendleton, were both charged with petit larceny at 7:49 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of Eagle Drive, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Deputies said they were responding to a suspicious vehicle report found Arne and identified two manhole covers in his pickup, which he admitted removing while “scrapping for metal.” Corson was found hiding nearby.

Arne said other metal items in the truck were from Corson’s yard and both denied being involved in other recent manhole thefts in the area, deputies said.
