• Football’s Section VI playoffs have reached the final four in all five classes. This weekend’s winners will play for the title at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Several schools are looking to make their first appearance at RWS in years. If Lockport can knock off defending state champion Orchard Park on Saturday, they will make their first trip since 2003. If Frontier can win at Jamestown on Friday, they will reach The Ralph for the first time since 1984. West Seneca East needs a win over Williamsville South to break a drought that started in 1987. JFK would advance for the first time since 1986 with a win over Fredonia. Cheektowaga stands in the way of Springville going to The Ralph for the first time 1997.
• The Section VI boys soccer tournament begins this week. Today, there are pre-quarterfinals in Class AA, A-1 and A-2. Wednesday brings prequarterfinal play in Class B-1, B-2 and C. On Thursday there will be quarterfinal round games in Classes AA, A-1 and A-2. Friday goes back to the quarterfinal round in B-1, B-2 and C. Hamburg will host semifinals on Saturday in Classes A-1 and A-2. . . . It’s the last week of the regular season in the Monsignor Martin Association. On Wednesday, St. Francis visits Nichols and St. Joe’s goes to rival Canisius, both games are at 4 p.m. The Monsignor Martin playoffs will begin on Sunday with two semifinals games.
• The Section VI girls soccer tournament begins this week. Today, there are quarterfinals in Class B, and pre-quarterfinals in Class C. On Wednesday, there are pre-quarterfinals in AA and A. On Thursday there the quarterfinals in Class C. Friday is a big day with the quarterfinals in Classes AA, A, B. The Class D semifinals are Saturday. ... The Monsignor Martin playoffs begin on Saturday with Christian Central hosting the No. 3 seed at noon. On Sunday there will be two semifinals at noon at the higher seed.
• The No. 1 ranked Orchard Park boys volleyball team hosts Eden on Friday on Senior Night. The varsity-only match begins at 6 p.m. OP graduate Peter Brady, who suffered paralysis following a swimming pool accident in May, is expected to be there. The OP Volleyball Booster Club will present the family with a check for Brady’s continuing care. . . . The Section VI seedings meeting is Friday.
• The girls volleyball seedings meeting is tonight. Orchard Park, the No. 1 ranked team in the WNY Coaches poll, is expected to grab the No. 1 seed in Class AA. The tournament begins with qualifiers in Class C on Wednesday. There will be pre-quarterfinals in Classes A and C on Thursday. The quarterfinals will be on Oct. 30.
• The Mount St. Mary’s (6-0) and Immaculata (6-0) cross country teams meet today at Ellicott Creek at 4:30 p.m. in a race that will determine the regular season champion in Monsignor Martin. ... The league championship meets will be this weekend starting with the Chautauqua/Cattaraugus at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday at Long Point Beach. On Saturday, the ECIC Championship is at Alden at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Niagara-Orleans League is at Lakeside Beach State Park at 10 a.m. and noon and the Niagara Frontier League meet is at Beaver Island State Park at 10 a.m. and noon.
• The Section VI Girls Tennis Championships will be Friday and Saturday at the Lakewood YMCA in Jamestown.
• The field hockey seedings meeting is Wednesday.

• COACH OF THE WEEK: The Week Eight NFL/Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week is Greg Bronson of Lockport. The Lions rallied from a 27-0 second quarter deficit to eliminate visiting Clarence in the Class AA quarterfinals.
