Both residents, Barbara A. Johnson, 71, and Carol A. Moxham, 63, were found outside and fire was coming from the rear of the residence when Niagara County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence. Both women told deputies they were uninjured.
Johnson told deputies that she was in bed on the second floor when she noticed falling debris. She went outside to investigate and found the house on fire. Johnson called 911 and both she and Moxham were able to escape the burning home.
Both Miller Hose and Olcott volunteer fire departments responded. Damages were listed at $70,000 and the cause remained under investigation today.
The Red Cross was called to assist and both women were temporarily staying with a neighbor, according to deputies.
