LITTLE VALLEY – Shane C. Riethmiller, a former Salamanca Central School science teacher, pleaded guilty before Cattaraugus County Judge Larry M. Himelein to felony and misdemeanor sex offense charges involving children, District Attorney Lori Pettit Rieman said Tuesday.
Riethmiller, 40, of Dunkirk, resigned from his school job a month ago, eight months after he was charged by sheriff’s deputies for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student. After his arrest, he was removed from paid leave and suspended from teaching eighth-graders.
Riethmiller pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree sexual abuse for an incident in the City of Salamanca between October 2011 and last December, the district attorney said. He was indicted this past summer for inducing the 15-year-old to engage in sexual contact with him. He faces sentencing Jan. 22.
