State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns today sentenced Jorge E. DeJesus, 26, to six years in state prison on weapons charges more than a year after his trial.
Burns found DeJesus guilty of two counts of criminal possession of a weapon at a non-jury trial in May 2011. But DeJesus - who was released on bail following that conviction - failed to appear for his sentencing, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
DeJesus was arrested on drug charges in Philadelphia last September. He was convicted and sentenced to up to three years for that conviction, according to the District Attorney’s Office, and was transported to Buffalo for sentencing here.
DeJesus was arrested in September 2010 by Northwest District police at his 302 Parkdale Ave. home after a tip that someone had a gun. When police arrived at the home, a person ran into an apartment, came out and handed a police officer a bag of marijuana. An officer later searched the house and found two loaded handguns in the basement rafters.
