NIAGARA FALLS – Felony drug charges were lodged against a passenger of a vehicle when police seized a baggie filled with crack cocaine after a traffic stop at 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Cleveland Avenue.
Tyrone J. Perry Jr., 28, of Cleveland Avenue, was charged with third-, fourth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence and obstructing governmental administration, city police reported.
The driver, Shanika Perry, 23, of Virginia Avenue, was charged with tampering with evidence and failure to signal a turn.
Police said they stopped the vehicle after Shanika Perry made a U-turn and failed to signal as she left the curb.
Tyrone Perry was observed trying to hide a plastic bag, police said. They said Shanika Perry then tried to place the bag between the seat and the center console. Police said they confiscated a bag of crack cocaine, marijuana and three hydrocodone tablets from Tyrone Perry, as well at $229 in cash.
Tyrone Perry asked to be taken to the hospital, saying he had swallowed half an ounce of an unnamed drug.
Additional units were called to the scene when several residents in nearby homes came out and started harassing police about the arrest, according to reports.
