DARIEN – A head-on crash Sunday afternoon at Route 20 and Warner Road killed a woman and injured her husband, her daughter and another driver, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Audrey Gleason, 55, of Baldwinsville, was pronounced dead in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, where she and her daughter were flown by Mercy Flight helicopters in the wake of the crash on Route 20 shortly after 3 p.m.
The daughter, Kelly Gleason, 16, was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota Rav 4, Dennis Gleason, 58, was listed in stable condition in ECMC, where he went by ambulance.
Audrey Gleason was a front-seat passenger, and her daughter was in the back seat, authorities said.
The other driver, Gerald Kania, 47, of Lancaster, was westbound in a Chrysler 300 on Route 20, following a Chevrolet TrailBlazer sport utility vehicle, which stopped in traffic to make a left turn.
Kania told deputies he was distracted and veered to the left to try to avoid a collision.
His car clipped the left rear corner of the SUV and crossed the center line, colliding head-on with the Gleason auto.
The driver of the SUV, Darlene Clark, 53, of Darien, was unhurt.
Kania was taken to ECMC by ambulance and treated for a leg injury.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation remains open.
