A man made a determined effort to enter a Timon Street home Sunday afternoon and left with a baby, but was quickly run down by Ferry-Fillmore District police.
Malcom Manuel, 21, whose address was not reported, climbed onto the second-floor porch of a woman’s home shortly before 5 p.m. and damaged a door trying to enter, the woman told police. Failing in that effort, Manuel allegedly went to the back of the house and used a knife to pry open a storm window and slip the lock. After he entered, the woman called 911.
Manuel grabbed the baby when police arrived and ran down the street. He tried to use the baby as a shield while struggling with police, authorities said. Manuel was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration. The uninjured baby was returned to his mother.
