Andy Anselmo, the legendary voice coach who shaped the voices of Liza Minnelli, Tony Bennett and Mandy Patinkin, is the honoree in a tribute planned for Thursday in the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans Music Hall. Several of his students are flying into town to perform, giving Buffalo a rare chance for what promises to be a night of New York-style cabaret.
The event is called “88 Keys” – Anselmo recently celebrated his 88th birthday. Proceeds benefit the Community Music School, which Anselmo attended as a boy.
Caroline Jones, a singer/songwriter from Connecticut who has appeared as featured entertainer at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, will be singing originals and standards. She is Anselmo’s current chief protegee.
Also performing will be Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano, “The New York Nightclub World’s Most Celebrated Team;” singer/actress Margaret Curry, a regular on New York City nightclub stages, and musical theater artist Arlinda Marrano. We’ll also hear saxophonist Bobby Militello and crooner and recording artist Michael Civisca, who maintains a low profile these days.
Admission is $40. VIP tickets are $100 and include a meet and greet with the artists as well as a reception afterward at Prospero, the cozy little restaurant across from Kleinhans. For info, call 884-4887.
