A masked gunman who robbed a Depew gas station early today had visited the business previously – without the mask, village police reported.
The NOCO station at Transit Road and Hanwell Place was robbed at about 1:30 a.m. by a gunman described as white and wearing all black clothing, including a black ski mask on his face. The robber brandished a handgun and demanded that a clerk give him cash from the register, as well as cigarettes, policed said.
Officers reviewed the gas station’s video surveillance and determined that the thief had stopped by earlier in the night, without the ski mask covering his face.
Officers and Detective Scott Hossfeld identified the thief as Jeffrey L. Breymeier, 18, and within four hours of the robbery, he was found at a relative’s home on Alys Drive in the village, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Police said several pieces of evidence, including the gun believed used in the robbery, were collected at the Alys Drive home.
Breymeier was charged with robbery, petit larceny and menacing. Following arraignment before Village Justice Gordon Willis, he was sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond.
