NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A woman was taken to Greater Niagara General Hospital today after she was extricated from the van in which she was a passenger, following a three-vehicle collision at about 9:30 a.m. on the QEW between Lyons Creed and Sodom roads.
Ontario Provincial Police closed Fort Erie-bound lanes for about three hours after the crash, which also involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. Those two vehicles collided as the rig was making a lane change, and a cargo-style van in which the injured woman was a passenger was struck and rolled over across the center median. “Tons” of newspapers came flying out of the van after the crash, police said.
Firefighters were called to extricate the female passenger trapped in the van. She appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries, police said, adding there were no other injuries.
An investigation into the cause of the crash continued tonight.
