NIAGARA FALLS – A public hearing on the needs of disabled people will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the office of Independent Living of Niagara County, 746 Portage Road.
The hearing is intended to help in developing priorities for the next three-year State Plan for Independent Living for people with disabilities.
The state plan is a tool to identify the needs, priorities and common strategies of consumers, providers and other stakeholders in the use of federal funding for independent living.
The Independent Living Center provides counseling for disabled individuals and their families, consultation about financial benefits, help in searching for homes, building modifications to accommodate the disabled, independent living skills, mobility training, peer support and advocacy.
Support systems of transportation, instruction on employing personal care attendants, a volunteer reading list and equipment loans also are available.
Independent Living also offers mental health services and programs for those with developmental disabilities.
