PENDLETON – Town residents might have a reason to look forward to the cold.
A new ice skating rink in Pendleton Park is being made available to the public once temperatures drop, expanding seasonal recreation options in the area.
Paid for through town funds, the rink is intended to support healthy activity during the winter months. It is inspired by and partially modeled after similar examples in Wheatfield and Lockport and at Bond Lake in Lewiston.
Town resident Chuck Wurzer, an experienced skater and hockey player, is offering free skating lessons to other residents on the new rink. Wurzer served as physical training instructor for the Buffalo Sabres during the 1974-75 season. The 150-by-200-foot rink will open in the winter after five consecutive days of subfreezing temperatures.
