A two-day family health conference kicks off today at Elim Christian Fellowship church in Central Park Plaza.
The event – which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday – will feature workshops for adults and children, a gospel jazz brunch Sunday, games, music, vendors and health screenings.
Dr. Edith M. Williams, deputy director for research and sustainability at the University of South Carolina, will be the keynote speaker at 9:20 a.m. today. Her focus will be obesity in African-American and Latina populations. Other conference topics include breast cancer prevention, diabetes self-management, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and mental health.
