A 21-year-old Genesee County man was killed and his teenage passenger was critically injured in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night, Genesee County sheriff’s officials reported.
The driver, Stephen T. Ferry, 21, of South Alabama, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The crash occurred shortly before 7:20 p.m. Thursday on Lockport Road, Town of Oakfield.
The passenger, Jonathan T. Coombs, 19, of Oakfield, apparently was ejected from the vehicle, according to the police report. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Friday morning.
Sheriff’s officials said Ferry’s car was westbound on Lockport Road, about half a mile east of Lewiston Road, when it went out of control, slid sideways off the north side of the road, through a lawn, striking some small pine trees and then a large tree.
The investigation into the cause is continuing.
