The Buffalo School Board voted, 7-1, Wednesday to authorize the superintendent to decide how to proceed in the court case regarding involuntary teacher transfers at three schools.

A State Supreme Court justice in September upheld an arbitrator’s decision that found the transfer of 54 teachers violated the Buffalo Teachers Federation contract. The teachers were transferred as part of a school improvement model that the board decided to implement this year at Futures Academy, Drew Science Magnet and Bilingual Center 33.

“I have a very good working relationship with the board, and I appreciate the fact that they have the confidence in me to make that decision,” Superintendent Pamela C. Brown said.

West District representative Ralph R. Hernandez cast the sole dissenting vote.
