BATAVIA – Genesee and Orleans counties will share a public health director effective immediately, as the result of approval given this week by the Genesee County Legislature.
Paul Petit, who heads the Orleans agency in Albion, will be in charge while David Whitcroft, Genesee’s interim director, will be named deputy director of public health.
Petit’s salary will be shared by the two counties, saving Genesee up to $40,000. Whitcroft will be paid $65,000 in a two-year agreement. It is possible that the new setup will eventually consolidate other services, including clinics and workshops. Orleans County legislators approved the intermunicipal agreement two weeks ago. It also has been approved by the state Department of Health.
In other business, the Genesee legislators:
• Renewed a one-year lease of space at County Building No. 2 for Genesee Community College’s veterinary technology program, at a cost of $2,578.
• Agreed to terminate a three-year lease with the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership (BOCES) that no longer needs space it was renting in County Building No. 2.
