Frank J. Petock of Amherst, retired chief of communications for the Buffalo Police Department, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 94.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Petock was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving stateside as a radio instructor.

He worked for the Police Department for 37 years, starting out on foot patrol and also working as a desk lieutenant in the 10th Precinct. He retired in 1980 as assistant chief of communications.

Mr. Petock had been active in the International Police Association.

After retiring, he lived for about 10 years in New Port Richey, Fla., before returning to Western New York.

His first wife, Dorothea Bertram Petock, died in 1980.

Survivors include his wife, the former Rita Cristelli; a daughter, Joy Tocha; two sons, Frank and Paul; four sisters, Mildred Brady, Henrietta Hebler, Joan Dean and Dolores Fleischman; and a brother, Daniel.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
