Niagara University’s College of Education honored the contributions of top Niagara University alumni educational leaders, counselors, teachers and community members at its annual professional recognition awards ceremony in the Castellani Art Museum. This year’s award recipients are: Educational Leaders of the Year, Michael Wendt, superintendent, Wilson Central School District, and William Hick, director of education, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board;

Counselors of the Year, Dr. Dianna Bruno, clinical psychologist, Psychotherapy Associates of Niagara, and Dr. Joseph M. Rizzo, retired psychologist and professor, Mohawk College; Teachers of the Year, Summer Chapman, Lewiston-Porter Primary Education Center, Lewiston-Porter Central School District, and Kyle Rufrano, Mary Ward Catholic Elementary School, Niagara Catholic District School Board; Community Leader of the Year, Judy Conte-Villani, director of volunteer programs, Niagara Fall Memorial Medical Center.

The owners and employees of Concord Mechanical in Springville and Ellicottville Auto Care in Ellicottville are offering free brake pads on clients’ cars during October and November when they donate a bag of nonperishable food items to benefit the Springville Food Pantry, The Trading Post and the Ellicottville Food Pantry. The “Help Us Put the Brakes on Hunger Again” program last year collected more than 3000 pounds of food.
