LOCKPORT – Town Supervisor Marc R. Smith said Friday a deal is in the works to move all the land Niagara County is offering for sale on Davison Road into the town.
At present, the boundary between the City and Town of Lockport runs through the Switzer Building, the now-vacant former county infirmary and Social Services headquarters. It’s part of the 16.9 acres the county wants to sell.
Smith said R.B. Mac Properties, the prospective buyer, wants all the land to be in the town.
Smith said the town is willing to take the portion of the county property that’s in the city limits, but to balance out the impact on the city’s assessments, a town property owner along the border elsewhere is being asked to allow the boundary to be shifted to put him into the city.
Smith said R.B. Mac wants to place apartments in the Switzer Building and construct patio homes for senior citizens on the rest of the parcel.
He said Town Attorney Daniel E. Seaman told him the county needs to approve a sale contract before the city and town take action on the annexations.
City Mayor Michael W. Tucker could not be reached to comment Friday night.
The difference between town and city codes helped sink a proposal for condominiums on the Davison property last year.
Dr. Douglas MacLeod, a Tacoma, Wash., ophthalmologist who bid $160,250 in an Internet auction in November 2011, was allowed to pull out of the deal after plans for a 132-unit senior-citizen condo project were blocked by the town, which said the four-story buildings would have violated the 35-foot height limit on buildings in the town.
