THOROLD, Ont. – A 19-year-old bicyclist died after colliding with a car on Merrittville Highway Thursday night, according to Niagara Regional Police Service.
Police said the car, driven by 24-year-old man from Smithville, was heading north and the bicyclist, a resident of Campbellville, was riding south. They collided in the northbound lane.
The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m., near Decew Road.
The bicyclist, who was thrown from his bike, was taken to St. Catharines General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.
Police said the motorist wasn’t injured.
