BATAVIA – A Bolivar woman was arraigned Thursday on a grand larceny charge for allegedly stealing $2,000 worth of pennies from a Batavia church earlier this year, Genesee County sheriff’s officials reported.
Carrie A. Brown, 32, was arraigned in Batavia Town Court and remanded into custody in lieu of $500 bail pending an Oct. 16 court appearance in connection with the Feb. 1 incident at a Lewiston Road church in Batavia, officials said.
Brown was arrested by Bolivar Police on an arrest warrant charging her with the theft.
Authorities said the money was to be used to buy a playground for a third-world country.
