FREDONIA – A state correctional officer was arrested today by state troopers and charged with sneaking contraband items into inmates at the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Brocton, where he was assigned.
German Lesmes, 53, of Fredonia, was arrested after a lengthy investigation by the state police, the state Inspector General’s Office, state Department of Correctional Services and the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s office.
Lesmes is accused of bringing contraband in the form of food items to several inmates, which is both a crime and a violation of state Correctional Services rules and regulations. He has been ordered to appear in Portland Town Court for further proceedings in several weeks.
Peter K. Cutler, state prison system spokesman, told The Buffalo News that Lesmes, a 14-year veteran of the prison system, was placed on disciplinary suspension on Jan. 27 in the midst of the investigation and he was suspended without pay as of March 5, as the investigation continued.
