TOWN OF LOCKPORT – Niagara County sheriff’s deputies and the Niagara County Drug Task Force searched a mobile home in the 6200 block of Ridge Road and said they located almost 50 marijuana plants being grown in a bedroom closet.
Edward L. Keiffer, 31, of Ridge Road, was charged just after 10 p.m. Tuesday with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawfully growing cannabis. He also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after deputies said they confiscated a loaded .22-caliber rifle at the scene.
Deputies were called to the scene to check a woman’s safety in the house. She told them there were 100 marijuana plants in the bedroom closet and consented to the search, but said the gun and plants were not hers, according to deputies. Deputies said they found about 47 marijuana plants in a closet in the master bedroom.
Keiffer was arraigned in Newfane Town Court and ordered held in Niagara County Jail on $3,000 bail. A return court date was set for Oct. 23.
