One man was killed and another man charged with drunken driving following a two-vehicle crash on Bear Ridge Road in the Town of Pendleton late Tuesday night, Niagara County sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Authorities say that the victim, Frank Panepento Jr., 60, of Lockport, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.
Panepento was heading northeast on Bear Ridge Road at about 9:55 p.m. when his vehicle collided with a pickup truck with a trailer that was being backed into a driveway, officials said. The collision occurred in the roadway.
Deputies charged the pickup truck driver, Nathan Morris, 29, of Pendleton, with driving while intoxicated and having an unregistered trailer, according to Chief Deputy Steven C. Preisch.
Morris was attempting to back the trailer into the driveway of an acquaintance’s home at 7247 Bear Ridge.
The investigation is continuing, and more charges could be lodged, officials said.
