Two men were critically injured in separate accidents in the Town of Eden Tuesday, police said today.
The first occurred just after 1 p.m. on Route 20 at Shadagee Road. Investigators said James Kipfer, 60, of Cowlesville, was operating a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer when he ran a red light at Route 20 and South Creek Road and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier operated by Brett Farrell, 20, of Derby.
Farrell was extricated from his vehicle by members of the Eden Fire Department and Emergency Squad and was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center where he was in the trauma intensive care unit today. The case remains under investigation. Charges were pending against Kipfer.
Then at 10 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a one-car accident on March Road. Police said Russell Boedo, 51, of Angola was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree and a culvert before overturning on the roadway. The car came to rest on the front lawn of a house.
Boedo was extricated by the Eden Emergency Squad and was taken to ECMC. He was later charged with driving while intoxicated.
