A Cheektowaga man was sentenced to 45 days in jail for choking a teenage boy with a briefcase strap, authorities said.
Edward D. Hand Jr., 46, of Melody Lane, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Cheektowaga Town Court. Judge Paul S. Piotrowski imposed the sentence.
The incident took place on Sept. 15, while Hand was in the back seat of a car. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, was seated in the front passenger seat. A 45-year-old woman was at the wheel and driving on Genesee Street.
Hand was sleeping in the back seat when he woke up and thought that the boy was talking about him. Hand became upset and put the strap around the boy’s neck, pulling back for several minutes until the woman pulled over. The boy escaped and called police.
