An Elmwood Avenue man found out the hard way this week that a neighborhood convenience store has a security alarm.
Jeffrey M. Shane, 49, was charged with burglary after Buffalo police said he was caught in the act burglarizing the Allentown Food Mart on Elmwood.
Shane was arrested in the back of the store about 5:20 a.m. by Officer James McMahon and other officers responding to an alarm in the business. After seeing the front window of the business broken, officers entered and confronted Shane, who was wearing rubber gloves and had two shopping bags filled with cigarettes and other items, as well as lottery tickets stuffed in his pants pockets, according to a police report.
Shane was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools, including his gloves and a screw driver. The stolen items, valued at more than $1,500, were returned to the store management.
