LOCKPORT - A man whose ex-girlfriend stabbed him in the back while he was allegedly assaulting her daughter July 4 was arraigned Monday in Niagara County Court.
Terrill D. Pettway, 23, of Ely Avenue, pleaded not guilty to second- and third-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas sent Pettway to jail and increased his bail from $2,500 to $5,000.
Assistant District Attorney Lisa M. Baehre said Pettway allegedly threatened the woman with a sawed-off shotgun and assaulted her in her Cudaback Avenue home. He then said he would go after the daughter, who has turned 6 years old since the incident, and was allegedly assaulting the girl in her bedroom when the mother stabbed him twice. She was not charged.
Baehre said the woman and her child moved and "have been in hiding" since the incident. She said the girl was not Pettway's biological child. Police recovered a sawed-off rifle and a sawed-off shotgun from Pettway's home, Baehre said.
