A state corrections officer was arrested last week by Illinois State Police who said he was transporting 143 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle, Illinois State Police confirmed Monday evening.
Raamah Cush, Bonilla, 36, of Hoyt Street, a Wende State Correctional Facility guard on disability for the last month, was stopped by police who said he was speeding in a construction zone.
During a search of his vehicle about 2:59 a.m. Thursday, state police reportedly found the marijuana with the help of a drug-sniffing dog. Police reported finding the marijuana in eight cardboard boxes.
Bonilla was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He was taken to the LaSalle jail and his current status in the central Illinois criminal case could not be confirmed Monday evening.
Spokesmen for the New York prison system were unavailable to comment Monday evening. Bonilla reportedly was transferred to Wende in August after working for the past five years at the Wyoming Correctional Facility.
