Blasdell Village Board members have removed the fire chief from the rolls of the Fire Department after a public dispute with a village official at a concert this summer.
Robert Michalski was taken off the rolls Sept. 19 after the incident at a concert July 25. The band Hit 'n' Run was playing in the village summer concert series at JFK Park.
"There was an incident with Mr. Michalski, at which time a report was sent to the mayor and board," Village Administrator Janet MacGregor Plarr said.
Mayor Michael Petrie suspended Michalski, and the Village Board reviewed the complaints of creating a public disturbance and hazardous circumstance, and use of profanity with the intent to intimidate.
Michalski was served a copy of the formal charges Aug. 18 and had 30 days to ask for a hearing. He did not, Plarr said. Though Michalski, who joined the department in 1995, was a volunteer firefighter, he has rights under the civil service law, she said.
First Assistant Fire Chief John Welch is the acting chief of the department.
