William F. Farnham Sr., of the Tuscarora Nation, died Monday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston. He was 79.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Farnham was a member of the Beaver Clan. In his youth, he supported his mother by working on the Cameron Nichols farm, family members said. He was employed for more than 28 years by the Stauffer Chemical Co.
Mr. Farnham also founded the Tuscarora Roofing Co. in 1964, ran the Farnham Grocery Store for 10 years and, in 2007, started a fruit stand and propane business.
He was an active and lifelong member of the Tuscarora Baptist Church. There, he had served as treasurer, head trustee and deacon.
Mr. Farnham was a member of the Sanborn Lions Club and Sanborn Historical Society.
Family members said he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rose A. Printup; three sons, William F. Jr., Edward and Gary; and two daughters, Nancy Dean and Shelly Woodbury.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. today in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. Funeral services will follow an hourlong visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2088 Mount Hope Road, Sanborn. The Revs. Walter A. Printup Jr. and Robert Dean will officiate.
