An 18-year-old Cornwall Avenue man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of Darrell Anderson just after he left a busy grocery story at Genesee Street and Goodyear Avenue on the afternoon of July 1, Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said Wednesday night.
Devon M. Scott was arrested by Homicide Detective Christopher Sterlace after questioning at Buffalo Police Headquarters late Tuesday afternoon and is being held on second-degree murder charges.
Anderson, 30, no address disclosed, was fatally shot in the 500 block of Goodyear shortly after he left Price Choppers Market at Genesee and Goodyear at about 3:50 p.m. on July 1.
A team of paramedics arrived at the scene but Anderson died hours later at Erie County Medical Center.
Derenda told The Buffalo News that work by Buffalo Strike Force investigators and patrol officers led to the discovery of several eyewitnesses that helped break the case. He declined to identify the witnesses.
The commissioner said Scott has denied involvement in the shooting under questioning by investigators.
