Frank C. White, a professional engineer and sailing enthusiast, died Sunday in his Williamsville home after a yearlong illness, He was 88.
A native of Buffalo and lifelong resident of the Buffalo area, Mr. White was an engineer at GTE Sylvania and later at Sierra Aerospace. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Buffalo.
He served as commodore of the Niagara Sailing Club in 1976 and 1986, and was an active volunteer at the Buffalo Maritime Center and a member of the Buffalo Yacht Club.
He was a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel, an association of past commanders of the yachting community.
Mr. White was a licensed captain and taught a captains licensing course under the auspices of the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Amherst.
Survivors include his wife, the former Joan Robson; a daughter, Gail L.; a son, Gary F.; two sisters, Ellinor Lynett and Susan; and two brothers, Otho H. and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday in St. Gregory the Great Church.
