SILVER CREEK - The Hanover Town Board enacted a local law Monday that would allow it to override the state cap on increasing taxes.
Acting at the regular meeting, board members asked for comments at a public hearing, then unanimously approved the local law.
Councilman Kevin O'Connell said the board does not intend to exceed the tax cap but passed the law as a protective measure. Board members are expected to be faced with some tough decisions in the 2013 spending plan. Increases in retirement contributions, health insurance and workers' compensation insurance may push the limit.
