Stefan Mychajliw, the Republican candidate for Erie County comptroller, is promising a top-to-bottom review of county hiring practices if elected.

Mychajliw, in a statement released today, said his first order of business as comptroller will be to end to what he calls "friends and family" plans at County Hall, the county Board of Elections and the county Water Authority.

He pointed to a recent round of patronage hiring at the Water Authority and said he would conduct an audit of the authority to insure that all future job openings are filled by the most qualified candidates.
