Two new reporters are on the air at WGRZ-TV Channel 2, general assignment reporter Jeff Preval, who most recently worked for WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pa., and sports reporter Jonah Javad from KOMU-TV in Missouri.
Preval was born in Arlington, Mass., and graduated from Hofstra University in 2007. While working for WTAJ, Preval was assigned to the State College bureau.
"Shortly after he started his job there, the Penn State sex abuse scandal broke, so most of his time at WTAJ was covering all aspects of the scandal," said Jeff Woodard, WGRZ news director.
Preval takes a slot vacated by Sarah Hopkins, whose last day at Ch. 2 was Sept. 1. She is now a freelance television reporter in Baltimore.
Javad worked at KOMU for nearly two years as a sports reporter and anchor. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri, with a journalism degree. In addition to sports reporting, Javad will anchor Ch. 2's weekend high school sports round-up, according to Woodard.
Javad is filling an opening left by the departure of Ben Hayes in mid-July.
