Jimmy Lee Barner, 30, of Buffalo, was convicted by a federal court jury in Buffalo of being a felon in possession of a firearm, stemming from a search of his Amherst Street apartment in June 2008.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said Barner faces a maximum 10-year prison term and a $250,000 fine or both when sentenced later this year.

Hochul said the search of Barner's apartment by state parole officers and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents recovered a firearm and ammunition. In 2008 Barner was placed on parole for a previous felony state conviction and could not legally possess firearms, he said.
