LOCKPORT - Both drivers have been charged with vehicle and traffic violations in connection with an Aug. 24 collision between a car and a dump truck that killed a passenger in the car.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced Friday that the driver of the car, Dillon J. Sherman, 19, of the City of Lockport, was charged with failure to stop while entering the roadway from a driveway and failure to yield the right of way.
His auto entered the path of an oncoming dump truck in the 6600 block of Slayton Settlement Road in the Town of Lockport. Collin A. Enzinna, 18, who was riding in the back seat of the car, was pronounced dead in Erie County Medical Center. Sherman was treated for a head injury in Eastern Niagara Hospital at Newfane; a front-seat passenger was unhurt.
The truck driver, Jason L. Albert, 35, of North Tonawanda, was charged with driving an unregistered truck with improper registration for agricultural use. The truck, which was hauling topsoil for A&K Topsoil Services of Lockport, also was overweight and lacked the proper state Department of Transportation stickers, according to the results of a joint investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the state police.
