Emanuel Tabachnick, retired senior counsel with the state teachers union, died Friday in Greenfields Nursing Home, Lancaster, after a short illness.
He was 93.
A Bronx native, Mr. Tabachnick graduated from Community College of New York. He received his law degree in 1970 from the University at Buffalo Law School, graduating cum laude.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.
From 1974 until he retired in 1992, Mr. Tabachnick was senior counsel to the New York State Union Teachers Association. He also was an international representative for the United Auto Workers in Detroit.
Mr. Tabachnick enjoyed playing tennis.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sylvia; a brother, Max Taub; and four sisters, Betty Krugman, Lee Seiffert, Peggy Rothstein and Susan Weinstein.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at Forest Lawn.
