Sister Verona Weber died Tuesday in the Stella Niagara Health Care Center. She was 80.

She was born Dorothy Weber in North Tonawanda.

After graduation from the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, she joined the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara and professed her vows Aug. 18, 1942.

Sister Verona received a bachelor's degree in Education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College and her master's degree from the University of Buffalo.

Sister Verona taught at St. Ann, St. Benedict and St. Joachim schools in Buffalo; at Stella Niagara Education Park; at St. Leo and Sacred Heart in Columbus, Ohio; at St. Paul in Athens, Ohio; St. Anthony in Greenville S.C.; and St. Agnes in New Jersey.

After her retirement from teaching, she was the assistant in the Provincial Offices and Archives.

Sister Verona was a Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan.

She loved to play pinochle, as well as other card games. She always had a funny story or joke to share with others and made them laugh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Sisters Chapel at Stella Niagara.
