The Rev. Louis F. Della Neve, pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lockport for 20 years, died Sunday in Briody Health Care Facility, Lockport. He was 84.

The Buffalo native was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University. After his ordination to the priesthood in 1952 by Bishop Joseph A. Burke, Father Della Neve was assigned to the missionary apostolate at St. Helen in Hinsdale.

Early in his priesthood, he served as assistant pastor at St. Lawrence Church in Buffalo, then at St. Joseph in Niagara Falls, St. James in Jamestown, again at St. Joseph in Niagara Falls, St. John in Jamestown and finally Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Buffalo.

Father Dellas Neve received his first assignment as pastor in 1968, when he was appointed to Our Lady of Loreto parish in Falconer. In 1973, he was named pastor of St. James in Jamestown. And in 1978, he took the reins at St. Anthony in Lockport, where he stayed as pastor until his retirement in 1998.

Survivors include three brothers, Anthony, Domenick and Charles, and two sisters, Mary Szeglowski and Lucy Etzel.

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.
