LOCKPORT - A Lockport man stopped for talking on his cellphone while driving faces further charges after Niagara County sheriff's deputies determined that he was driving while intoxicated.

Shawn M. Murphy, 32, of Beattie Avenue, was stopped by deputies just after 6 p.m. Sunday in the 5400 block of Upper Mountain Road and charged with DWI and operating a motor vehicle while using a cellphone.

Deputies said Murphy appeared to be intoxicated. He told deputies that he works at the Oak Run Golf Course and said that after work he stayed to watch the football game and drank nine beers before driving home.

Murphy registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit, deputies said.
