A Delta Air Lines subsidiary will offer jobs to all employees of Regional Elite Airline Services at two regional airports, as Regional Elite winds down its operations.
Delta Global Services won the contracts for Delta ground handling operations at the Buffalo and Rochester airports, said Leslie P. Scott, a Delta Air Lines spokeswoman. "There will be no layoffs."
The potential for layoffs surfaced after Regional Elite, which provides airport services for regional carriers, notified the state Department of Labor last week that it would eliminate 63 jobs at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and 51 jobs at the Greater Rochester International Airport, starting in December.
Regional Elite last month told its employees that its impending shutdown was triggered by high overhead costs and the loss of work to competitors. An executive with the company also said it was likely the affected employees would be hired by the new contractor, since the airline still needed those services provided.
Regional Elite, which was formed in 2009, and Delta Global Services both are subsidiaries of Delta, but they compete against other firms for contracts with the airline.
