JAMESTOWN - A longtime Jamestown police detective has resigned amid allegations he removed prescription painkillers from the department's evidence room.
As a result, Jamestown authorities currently are assessing how the allegations might affect criminal cases.
Detective Eric Corey was in charge of the department's evidence room for two years until he transferred to another unit in April. He resigned last week after 14 years in the department.
State police are investigating. Corey, who has not been charged, could not be reached to comment.
