ATTICA - The Wyoming County SPCA's no-kill animal shelter, closed in February after complaints of overcrowding and animal cruelty, will hold a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 808 Creek Road (Route 98). State and local officials have been invited.
The facility has a new gift shop, and there will be a Clor's chicken barbecue, hot dogs and other snacks, as well as a chance auction, a small garage sale, raffles, drawings and children's activities. A few of the shelter's new animals are ready for adoption and will be on hand to greet visitors.
More than 500 cats were removed from the shelter and a satellite adoption center in Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence in February, and former director Susan J. Davila was charged with 20 animal cruelty counts. She died July 7.
