Nurses at the Sisters of Charity Hospital - St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga were unable to come to a contract agreement with the hospital after two months of negotiations.
The nurses on Tuesday voted down the contract, which included economic and non-economic concessions, according to a statement by the Communications Workers of America, Local 1168, AFL-CIO, which represents the nurses. The previous contract expired on Aug. 31.
The union represents 232 registered nurses at the Cheektowaga hospital. A five-member employee-union committee represented the nurses in the negotiations.
A representative from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services will be available if the negotiations reconvene.
The union has 4,500 members in health care organizations across Western New York.
