Health Transaction Network, an Amherst-based electronic payments system, has formed a new joint venture with Cincinnati-based Vantiv, the nation's third-largest transaction processor, to market Vantiv's credit and debit card processing to smaller merchants in Western New York.
The service, called Guardian Payment Processing, was launched six weeks ago and five merchants have signed on, including the businesses at Hotel @ The Lafayette and Pearl Street Grill & Brewery. The firm has two salespeople currently but is seeking additional staff to market Vantiv's services.
The nine-year-old HTN has been selling merchant processing services for medical businesses through Vantiv or its Louisville, Ky.-based affiliate, National Processing Company, for more than four years. The new joint venture represents an expansion to a broader market locally and nationally, officials said. Vantiv, formerly Fifth Third Processing and a subsidiary of Fifth Third Bancorp, is a publicly traded company.
