SILVER CREEK - The first day at Silver Creek Central School went well for Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich.
The new superintendent, who until recently was principal of Williamsville South High School, told members of the Board of Education at the regular meeting Wednesday that he saw many teachers in the hallways assisting students with directions and questions about lockers and other issues.
"We want to show everyone that we are there for them," he said.
He said members of the administrative team were on hand to welcome teachers during the two conference days that preceded the official opening last Thursday.
Members of the school's administration, including Ljiljanich, will be participating in the grape-stomping event as part of the Festival of Grapes at 7 p.m. today in the village square.
The superintendent said that all board members are being urged to participate in the parade at 1 p.m. Sunday.
In other matters, board members authorized hiring Diane Graf, a licensed practical nurse, as school nurse. Several other appointments for teacher's aides and community education teachers also were approved.
Craig Lamoreaux, of Hamburg, was hired as an elementary teacher. He was formerly a tenured teacher at the Lake Shore School District.
Personal Touch Food Service of Buffalo was awarded the contract to provide staff and meals for the school's cafeterias. It was the lowest bidder.
School tax bills have been mailed to residents of the district and will be collected at the Silver Creek branch of Community Bank.
